Pay per click is a feature that involves purchasing banner or display advertisements on search engine websites, or even possibly other websites that might often be frequented by consumers within a business’ niche. On search engine sites, these ads will appear highlighted in the results when certain relevant keywords or phrases are searched.
These advertisements, after initially purchased so that they will appear on a website, are paid for based on the amount of traffic (or clicks) that the advertisement garners. More than attracting potential customers with an advertisement that stands above its competition, this form of advertisement serves as a useful assessment of how effective the advertisement is because the number of clicks is always being tracked directly.
