Today, I had the honor of interviewing Doug Holt, an incredibly successful businessman who is the head of many fast growing companies like Branded Innovation, SB Fitness Magazine, Conditioning Specialists, Doug Holt Online, and Fitness Professional Online. With more than twenty years of business experience and 15 years of internet marketing experience, he has gained numerous recognitions in Internet Marketing Strategy, along with several certifications in the area of web development and SEO.
Due to the extensive responses to every question, this blog will be divided into two posts. Make sure to check back with us for the second part of this interview.
So, what were the questions?
Q: Coming from a successful entrepreneur, what trait does someone who one day aspires to follow in your footsteps have to possess?
A: “The business world is incredibly difficult to enter; to become a part of it, you have to be willing to accept failure from time to time. How you handle rejection and what you do with critique will determine how successful you become in future endeavors. However, to persevere through every obstacle, it is fundamental to have enough passion in what you do because that self motivation will be the only thing that will keep you going. In the end, creating a successful business entails doing the things no one wants to, as well as adding more value to consumers than anyone else. Sometimes, this includes things like waking up everyday at five in the morning to contact more clients, prioritizing hard work over lazy Sundays, and sacrificing time today in order to be successful tomorrow.”
Q: To you, what is the most important aspect of a successful marketing plan? Can you tell us in what ways you would integrate that into social media?
A: “The most important step is having a plan that works. You have no idea how many clients lack a proper marketing plan. In such a competitive industry, the better your plan is, the better the results your business will obtain. The next thing is determining who your target audience is, or in other words, who do you want to sell to? Whether it is targeting a wealthy stay at home mother or to average guy, your marketing plan has to take every detail into effect. Nowadays, integrating a marketing plan into social media is fundamental for company expansion. For example, by using a proper Facebook Ad, you have the ability to market wherever you are and to the audience you are looking for. Nowadays, people want to know the product they are buying is reliable. Social proof has become this type of credibility, so, in simple words, the more of a fan base you have, the more people will trust and want to buy your product. That being said, putting yourself in the customer’s shoes will always be a helpful way of knowing how to get their attention in the first place”.
Q: You have worked in SEO for years now. In your opinion, what is the future of SEO and what can clients expect?
A: “Well, honestly, with how Google algorithms have been working lately, a big part of the future of SEO starts with inbound marketing. Inbound marketing is all about creating great content which attracts more customers and qualified professionals towards your website. To make great content, you have to ask yourself what kind of website people want to keep coming back to, what are some ways to add engagement into your website to keep customers coming back for more, and what your clients want to see on your website. You have to make people feel like they need your product and you are the only company qualified enough to sell it to them. Convincing potential clients you are the company for the job requires great content, personalization, and making sure your client always has what they need, whenever they need it”.
Thank you Doug Holt for the great interview! Your answers not only provide incredibly useful information, but also show why you have made it so far in the field of marketing.
